This work continues Bae Soo-Young’s long-standing artistic inquiry into the relationships between technology, emotion, and life. Crafted in stainless steel with a chrome finish, the piece combines the form of a butterfly with circuitry-like structures, presenting a state of existence situated between natural generation and artificial systems. The butterfly symbolizes transformation and metamorphosis, while the circuit patterns point to contemporary perceptual environments shaped by data, technology, and networks.
Through its highly reflective surface, the work incorporates light, surrounding space, and the viewer’s own reflection, turning observation into a constantly shifting experience. Within the still form resides a sense of flowing energy, operating almost like a breath, echoing the artist’s ongoing contemplation of the “aesthetics of connection,” “electronic respiration,” and states of life.
Here, electronic elements often regarded as obsolete or discarded are transformed into forms charged with emotion and symbolism. Rather than addressing technological progress alone, the work invites viewers to reconsider the relationships between humans and machines, the digital and perception, awakening sensibility and resonance within rational structures.
